My five Questions

  • Where do chimps live?

  • What do chimps look like and weigh?

  • What do chimps eat?

  • How do baby chimps live?

  • How do chimps live together?

Image you are walking through a forest. While you're walking you see something move from tree to tree. Then you hear a hoot and a scream you may think it is  someone in danger. You're wrong you see something else move from tree to tree and hear a hooting and something screaming. You say hello and start running for your life because you do not know what's making those sounds and who is moving from tree to tree. You stop running to catch your breath and look up in the tree and look all around and see chimpanzees all around you and scream as loud as you can. Come join me in the forest to learn about chimpanzees.

Chimpanzees live in different places. Some chimps live in Asia, East central Africa, and Africa (Stevens). Chimps sometimes live on grasslands, rainforests, savannas, and woodlands. Chimpanzees sleep on edges of grasslands (Stevens). They also sleep on leaves and branches of trees. Sometimes they live in inhabited places (Gish).

Chimpanzees are very unique in different ways. Chimpanzees have black hair on some parts of their body except their face, ears, palms, hands, and feet. They have fingernails and toenails which they bite to keep trimmed (Gish). Their fingernails and toes are like humans nails and toes. Their ears stick out from their head. They have powerful shoulders and have no claws. Chimpanzees have four fingers and five toes. Females are four feet and weigh 70 to 100 pounds. Males are five feet and weigh 140 pounds (Stevens).

Chimps eat different foods than other animals. Meat is chimpanzees main source of food like termites and other animals (Gish). To eat termites they dip a stick into a termites hole and termites stick on the stick then they eat them. They get water from fruit and from dipping their fingers in water. Chimps eat nuts by banging them on rocks until it breaks (Stevens). They eat different foods like ants, birds, eggs, terminates, seeds, bark, fruit, and shellfish.

Baby chimps do different things than grown chimps. For baby chimps to learn how to do things they intimate adults (Stevens). Baby chimps stay with their mothers. They ride on their mom's back at about five or six months old (Stevens). The liquid they drink is milk from their mothers they stop drinking milk at about four or five years old (Stevens). At about eight years old they leave their mom. Chimps learn how to tools, get food, and make nest from the communities they go to (Stevens).

Chimps live different ways than other animals. Chimps live in communities with eight members. There are about one hundred groups (Shores). Sometimes they share territory, ideas, and feelings. When some chimps sleep or look for food they split into a smaller family. To catch fish, they use the termite method.  Two chimps fight to determine  most important (Stevens). They will use sounds and touching to communicate and show feelings (Shores). Older chimps will spend seven hours a day helping younger chimps (Gish).

Chimps are very interesting to learn about. They live like humans and in some ways they look like humans. Chimps eat a variety of different foods. Chimps live in different places like Asia and Africa.  You should explore more about chimps.
